The variable frequency damper allows the tuning of a torsional vibration damper during its installation. Meaning that the same set of components can be used to produce multiple torsional frequencies in dis-similar applications. This coupled with easy radial assembly using cost-effective components makes this the only vibration damper in the world that can be installed as an after-thought.
- The elastomer ring (with a radial split) is wrapped around the vibrating shaft in the proper axial position.
- The compound inertia ring is placed on the elastomer.
- The open-style clamp is wrapped around the compound inertia rings in the channel provided.
- The open-Style clamp is tightened using a pneumatic wrench with a force or deflection feedback (this feedback setting determines the torsional frequency of the damper).
- It can be installed on rotating shafts radially without disassembling the shaft in the application.
- It can be tuned for various platforms during assembly using identical metallic and elastomeric components.
- It is relatively cost effective and easy to install by simply crimping the open style clamp.
