Currently most TV dampers hubs are constructed as a single gray or nodular iron cast and machined component that is unnecessarily heavy. The discretized hub breaks the hub into its functional units, and utilizes the most appropriate materials for the same thereby creating a lightweight part with superior NVH performance, simultaneously with robust structural integrity.
Raw Materials:
Extruded and saw cut aluminum tube flange with pre-machined holes for receiving fasteners // Fully finished screw-machined cast iron nose with radial holes for receiving fasteners // Set of fasteners.
Hub Assembly:
- Flange and nose are radially assembled with fasteners.
- Flange and fastener heads are machined to sine profile.
Compared to conventional cast and machined hub the discretized hub:
- is generally 50+% lower in mass.
- is generally 70+% lower in polar mass moment of inertia.
- eliminates porosity in the seal nose area.
- has a lobed shape that can enable the TV damper to have enormous slip-torque capacity.
